Hotel Facilities
A couple of years ago the Nicolosi family has completed the restoration of the ancient main house of 1700 centuries. The original architectural style has been maintained and the structure has been finished using local materials available on the Mount Etna, such as lava stone and wood of disused chestnut barrels.
From an ancient collecting rainwater tank, a swimming pool has been built to create a relax area for guests. The swimming pool is completely finished by lava stone and its location overlook the gorgeous amphitheater of Villagrande vineyards where the family grow the two native vines variety of Etna: Nerello Mascalese for the red and Carricante for the white wines.

Wine Interest & Activities
Barone di Villagrande Estate is located near the town of Milo on the eastern slope of Mount Etna at 700 meters above sea level. Villagrande winery is the oldest of the Etna volcano and has been cultivated by the Nicolosi Family since 1727.
The vineyards are among the family property of chestnut woods into the protected area of the Etna Park.
The production of the wines, Etna DOC certified since 1968, is made exclusively by their cultivations and Villagrande’s wines are present in the national market and exported to many countries all over the world.
The historical cellar with the huge chestnut barrel are still used in the production of wines and can be visited during the tours organized by the winery.
Visiting Etna for a wine lovers and traveler is a full immersion in a unique territory. The Etna wines production has its roots in the volcano territory, in its agricultural tradition, finding in the local culinary the expression of a fascinating eno-gastronomy culture. Villagrande commitment to production is to create wines that have its own characteristics of this territory and climate.
Our Wines
The Barone di Villagrande estate sets on Etna’s slopes at an altitude of 700 metres above sea level. The vineyards slope down towards the sea into a natural amphitheatre.

For more than 10 years now, the company has taken up a project on the island of Salina – the production of the “passito” wine (made from sun-dried grapes) Malvasia delle Lipari.
