Languedoc-Roussillon in the south of France stretches from the Rhône valley in the east to the Spanish border in the southwest. It is dominated by 300,000 hectares of vineyards, making it France’s largest wine producing region. The vast majority of Languedoc wines are produced by wine cooperatives which number more than 500. The Languedoc-Roussillon area is home to numerous grape varieties, including many international varieties like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon blanc, and Chardonnay.
