Today, this region is producing over 42 million cases of wine in a year which makes it the 5th most productive region in the country. Abruzzo is home to one DOCG – Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane – and three DOC wine designations. The red and Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo and Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, and the white wine appellation Trebbiano d'Abruzzo are the most notable, followed by the lesser-known Controguerra.
