Description

The “Castello di Semivicoli” is an extraordinary example of abruzzese civil palace of XVIII century, it joins neoclassical deorative elements and a space divison tipical of country noble palace: today Masciarelli family welcome here his friends and all the wine lovers.

The Castle of Semivicoli has 11 rooms and charming customized suites, whose furniture leaves nothing to chance. Refined equipment of contemporary design exalts the ancient architecture and references its history: the porch, the snow-room, the private chapel, the olive-mill, the winery and the old casks room, in which huge chestnut wine barrels still dwell, restored in all its former splendour.

The Castle of Semivicoli is well suited for cultural events, seminars and little concerts, and it is the ideal setting for special events and parties. The landscape dominates, among the majesty of the highest peaks of the Appenini mountains – Gran Sasso and Majella – together with the delicate outline of the hills, emphasizing the coasts of the Adriatic sea. All to be enjoyed during a workout in the modern fitness room or simply by going for a bicycle ride, with complimentary bicycles provided by the estate.

Wine Interest & Activities
Since 2004, the castle has been owned by the Masciarelli family, famous wine producers from the region who export Montepulciano and Trebbiano d’Abruzzo wines to over 35 countries.

Indeed, in honour of their passionately and painstakingly restored ancient baronial palace, Castello di Semivicoli also lends its name to a fine Trebbiano of the estate.

The castle is located only 20 kilometers from the Majella mountains and a short 30 minute journey to the Adriatic Coast and the localities of Ortona and Francavilla al Mare.

But in particular, close to San Martino sulla Marrucina, the home of the Masciarelli business, and surrounded by rolling chalky hills and vineyards.

For 200 years the estate belonged to the Valignani Lords of Chieti and the internal garden features secular trees, an ancient private chapel, an old olive press and a large cellar where wine tastings, corporate and private functions for up to 100 people are held.

The current yearly production of Gianni Masciarelli winery is of more than one million and a half bottles, commercialized in three ranges: Masciarelli Classico, Villa Gemma ancd Marina Cvetic.

The estate owns 350 hectares dislocated in each province of Abruzzo.

Most of the lands are cultivated with Montepulciano and Trebbiano, the Abruzzo typical grape varieties, but part of them produce international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon (in San Martino sulla Marruccina and Ripa Teatina) and Merlot or Cabernet Franc in the province of L’Aquila.

Location
Semivicoli is a tiny hamlet, that belongs to the city of Casacanditella in the Province of Chieti 365 metres above the sea level in the Abruzzo Region. The Castello is near the ski slopes in Passo Lanciano, about 30 km away. The nearest beach on the Adriatic Coast is 15 km away.
