The district of Stellenbosch is one of the oldest and most important wine producing regions in South Africa. It is located just east of Cape Town within the Western Cape and along with Paarl and Franschhoek helps to form the Cape Winelands. The Stellenbosch Wine Routes include 5 sub-routes which each have their own characteristics in terms of prominent wine styles, climates and geographical location. Stellenbosch Wine Routes are part of the six most popular tourist attractions in South Africa and are also connected to the global Great Wine Capitals Network.
